T-minus three hours to go!

That's right, we on the east coast have another three hours of anxious fidgeting before we hear our fates...will we get the new iPhone today? Will it go on sale on the WWDC floor? Is it finally time for iPhone OS 4.0's debut? What exactly is a Magic Trackpad? All this and more below...hang on with us and we'll update you as the news happens.

WWDC Keynote
Doesn't it seem like it was only yesterday we announced the tickets for the conference were going on sale? The big day is here and we--like every other nerd in the states and possible across the world--are awaiting 10am PST very, very impatiently. The biggest announcement of the day should be the iPhone 4G; there's a little bit of a precedent here so we're pretty comfortable saying the 4G's birthday is here. But will it be all shiny, white and squared off at the edges? Will it have a front facing camera and iChat as reported? What features have made the final cut? We hate the wait-and-see game. Hate it.

Other issues and rumors should be addressed by Steve during the speech and here's the rest of what we're looking forward to: iPhone OS 4.0's release, a promise to look further into the Foxconn suicides, and a discussion of AT&T's awesome new data plan. Bare minimum. Check back later today for the rundown--we'll be posting all the updates after the speech is through.

Speaking of Updates
There seems to be a late leak, picked up by engadget (what, not gizmodo?) of yet another magic and revolutionary device from Apple slated to debut today. While we're not as tickled about it as, say, multi-tasking, we're genuinely excited by the appearance of what seems to be called the Magic Trackpad. Picking up where the Magic Mouse left off, this bluetooth input device is completely finger based and comes with a great set of claims, from handwriting recognition to "every feature you can find on a Magic Mouse." We'll know in a few hours--but what a decisive move from Apple, investing in finger based input for all devices, not just mobile ones. The future they see is very clearly delineated and we're looking forward to it!
SquareTrade Saves your iPhone
AT&T and Apple's iPhone warranties are expensive and they don't cover drops and spills. Fail, right? So SquareTrade saw the need for some good insurance, as it were, and stepped in to the void. Just in time for today's announcement, you can protect your iPhone from almost anything--except theft--for $99 up front for a two year coverage with a $50 deductible every time you ruin your iPhone.

We've seen some painfully cracked screens and painfully embarrassed iPhone owners in our day, so if you even think you'll need it, we recommend picking it up! Here's the total breakdown:

Apple iPhone 3GS:

One device failure (drop, breakage etc) in two years:
  • AT&T - $535
  • SquareTrade - $149
  • Difference = $386
  • Two device failures in two years:

  • AT&T - $734
  • SquareTrade - $199
  • Difference = $535
