Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...
December 14th, 2009
Morning, y'all,
Here's hoping your weekend was long and restful--hey, even the App Store woke up today feeling refreshed! We've got some iMac updates, that App Store news and a look at how to handle yourself on those newfangled social networking sites...some nasty tricks are waiting for you to let your guard down.
iMacs Delayed
Due to screen flickering and graphics hardware distortion, the refreshed 27 inch iMac is having a little trouble out of the box...that is, if you've received your box. Demand for these bigger than ever beauties is really high, and we're gonna come out and say it: if you haven't gotten yours yet and have gotten notice of yet another shipping delay, you might be lucky. We hope that Apple is using this time to reduce or eliminate the instances of malfunction and that the machines that come to users from now on will work exactly as we expect Macs to: elegantly, quickly, intuitively. We're sure they are, but we'd love it if they'd actually admit that they're having a problem...
The guys and gals at Apple have certainly not been wasting time, though...the App Store got the iTunes 9 treatment over the weekend with a new interface stressing the screen shots of the app instead of the text descriptors. After the snafu last week, we think that screen shots are a really great way to ensure that you're buying a quality product! Now app developers need to restrain themselves as far as descriptions go--only the first line of text is shown by default. It really does make the apps look more attractive, so we think this was a good move for Apple and developers alike.
Malware for the Holidays
Surely you've noticed the increase in malware and malicious programs on Facebook and Twitter lately...the links pop up from your friends, asking you if you're in this photo, or if you'd like to take an IQ test, and if you click on the link, you and all your friends are toast.
If you've been hacked, you know how embarrassing it can be, and how guilty you feel knowing you've exposed your friends, family and
followers to nasty bugs. Protect yourself, folks: create strong passwords and change them from time to time. We know that on sites we think are high risk, like online banking or sites where we buy things, we use great passwords...but it might be time for us to make our Facebook password a little more difficult to figure out! In the meantime, be careful and smart. If your macho trainer from the gym is suddenly touting a brand of fancy ladies clothing, stop and ask yourself if that computes. Click safely!
Enjoy your day folks, and catch us on Twitter, where our password is strong!
Till tomorrow, Newsies...
