Apple In The News
Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...

December 7th, 2009

Morning, all,

Hope you had a long and lovely weekend! We've got the holiday countdown going here, and for all you AmEx holders, we feel the need to point out some ridiculous opportunities for discounted gift buying...and as usual, there's some news buried in here.

First Things First
The Daily Wish has, once again, confounded us with the prices it can offer on hot products. Two Canon digital cameras caught our eye this week: the EOS Rebel T1i DSLR and the straight up Powershot. They're both very different, but excellent cameras, and if you have a photographer (amateur or professional) to buy for consider this: you can pick up the heavy duty DSLR for $499, and the Powershot for $219. The retail price for the big boy is $769.99 while the Powershot goes for $329.99...that's a humongous savings. Quantities are extremely limited with only 150 available for the DSLR and 175 for the Powershot, but remember how easy this is. Just hunker down at 2:45pm on Wednesday and click until you get through.

Another deal--which made us wish we had not just bought a new 32" LCD TV last week during the Black Friday sales-- is the 1:45 pm Thursday LG sale. There are only a hundred of these puppies, and at a retail $599.95 the $269.00 price tag literally pains us, since we just spent a hundred more on basically the same TV. Learn from our mistakes, grasshoppers...

Back to Business
Now that we've done our good deed for the week let's examine a company doing the same: yes, it's none other than our dearly beloved AT&T. We think this is the smartest thing they've done since picking up the iPhone, and really believe it'll knock some of the pain out of owning a phone on their network. Now, there's an app for the dropped calls too!!

The mobile giant has come up with an iPhone app that lets customers report weak spots in the network where they experience dropped calls, poor voice quality, and a host of other problems they've been taking a serious beating for. Customers select the frequency of the problem and can even submit their exact location to AT&T via the app. It's called AT&T Mark The Spot, and is free in the App Store. A theory? Even if the data wasn't processed, the mere act of letting people think they're doing something to fix the problem should help the company's image. They'll use it to fix the network, though...right?

We're curious how many downloads the app will get...tell us what you think on Twitter.

Till tomorrow, Newsies...
