Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...
December 2nd, 2009
Hey folks,
With over 100,000 apps available in the Apple App Store there's very literally something for everybody. But as the holidays approach and the weather turns colder our thoughts turn away from entertainment, and more toward pairing up. Believe it or not, there's an app for that too.
Better than Google
Oh come one, you know you do it. We haven't been on a date in years that wasn't preluded by nerves, multiple costume changes and a good long session on the search engine to see if there were any glaring reasons to stay home and wash our hair.
Now, though, apps are getting in on the game, and some of them are really sneaky! For instance, "Stud or Dud" lets you enter all the info you know about a potential partner and brings up so much information it's kind of scary: past addresses, business licenses, bankruptcies, criminal records...everything you'd want to know but can't ask right away!
"Are They Really Single," on the other hand, scans marriage and divorce records to make sure that fox hitting on you at the bar isn't sporting just the shadow of a wedding ring. Simple? Oh yes. But would we make a bathroom trip to open the app and check it out? You betcha.
Too Much?
If the thought of digging through public records instead of having a long series of conversations doesn't appeal to you, don't worry--there's plenty more fun to be had out there. Apps like "Best Pick Up Lines" for $0.99 promise to make you a smooth player, although with suggestions like "Baby, if you were words on a page you'd be what they call FINE PRINT!" we're a little concerned about the claim.
The caps are theirs, by the way.
If you're serious about finding someone the new old fashioned way, Match.com has a free app that doubles up on your paid subcription. It has all the features of your online profile, but lets you wink at all hours...mobility is a beautiful thing, no?
The sheer number of apps available consistently boggle our minds, and the fact that developers have put together public records searches at all keeps the surprises coming. At the very least it can't hurt to go into a situation prepared, and we know how much we love digging around and uncovering the dirt...hopefully it's never anything too crazy!
Would you use these apps? Tell us, you know where.
Till tomorrow, Newsies...
