Apple In The News
Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...

December 1st, 2009

Hi folks,

Happy December! It's hard to believe the year is almost over, and that the busiest part of it is yet to come. For the next thirty one days we're all going to be running around like maniacs, but this year, embrace the new green trend and take some time out to consider how our actions affect stuff...for the rest of the year.

Mini's Big on Green
According to sust-it.net, a website dedicated to finding energy saving appliances, Apple's Mac mini takes the top four spots in the energy efficient desktop race. The little wonder averages around five bucks a year to run whether you have the 2.0 GHz or 2.26 GHz version...that's about two cents a day. Add that to the fact that there are no BFRs or PVC in the mini, and that Apple has reduced the size of the boxes the computer ships in, and, well...you've got another jolly green giant on your hands. If you ned a new family computer this year, think about the Mac mini as a big shot in computing as well as a helper in reducing your carbon footprint.

The price is right, too!

Best Buy Recycles
When you trade up to the Mac mini this year, make sure you take your old computer in for recycling. It's easier than ever with the system at Best Buys around the country accepting any and all manner of electronic detritus...for free. Seriously.

Since March, over 25 million pounds of junk have been taken to over one thousand stores, and in return for a ten dollar recycling fee, Best Buy gives you a ten dollar store gift card. It's all about community and social responsibility for the store--customers started caring about what was happening to their old stuff and they got a great solution. Even huge appliances make the grade--if you're buying a replacement Best Buy will cart off your old model to recycling for free, but if you're getting it somewhere else you can still get in on the good deeds for a hundred dollars.

Right now, the take back program costs Best Buy money, but as more people buy in, so to speak, they're hoping to make it a "break even proposition."

Oh, and...
Psystar and Apple are settling. Just so you know.

Till tomorrow, Newsies...
