Apple In The News
Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...

November 16th, 2009

Morning, y'all,

There's so much happening in the news today, we thought we'd gather together a collection of shorts--and one really important MacTribe announcement. Read on for allll the fun.

Victory for Apple
In the long awaited conclusion to Apple's battle with PC clone maker Psystar, a federal judge has ruled in the big dog's favor: saying that Psystar had "violated Apple's exclusive reproduction right, distribution right, and right to create derivitive works" by selling PCs with Mac OS X pre-installed. We called this one months ago, but it is nice to see how right we were. Yes. We're gloating.

Former Dev Team Member Speaks
George Holtz, the twenty-something now famous for the first iPhone unlocking, sums up the attitude of hackers and jailbreakers everywhere: "This is a personal hobby; it'd be no fun if Apple didn't have it closed anymore." His unlock, which took him over 500 hours to complete, was "incredibly easy" compared to some of the hacks he's completed now. If we were Apple we'd try to recruit this guy-he seems to have a better understanding of their software than their engineers.

Super Mario Super Hard
For all you Wii lovers out there, this weekend's launch of the first Super Mario adventure in two years was (at first) a cause for mucho celebration...until you figured out that it was more early 90s arcade game than Mario Party in style. Reviews are all saying the same thing--it's hard. Really hard. And contrary to the Wii's spirit of camaraderie it's best played in a dark room, by yourself. With plenty of provisions laid in. We'll talk more after we beat it. (If we beat it.)
