Apple In The News
Apple, Mac, & iPhone News...

November 4th, 2009

Hey folks,

Here at MacTribe we like to keep you up to date with ways to spend your money wisely, especially when it comes to iPhone and iPod accessories. That's why we signed up for The Daily Wish...it's an AmEx site designed to reward customers of the card company, but when you see the savings, we bet you'll get yours out of your wallet (or sign up immediately)!

How it Works
All you have to do is sign up and log your card information and you are instantly eligible for some stellar savings on a variety of products...but there's an iPod and iPhone block that goes on sale tomorrow. Sale times can be gotten in advance via an email notification system, and then it's kind of a free for all. You watch and wait for the clock to run down to the time the sale starts, and then click madly and hope you get the item you're trying to win. There are limited quantities of each, but we found it pretty easy to get in on stuff...at least on a recent Whole Foods offer. We'll be trying again tomorrow, for these things:

  • Design Tower Stereo for iPodŽ from Brookstone
    Price: $135.00 (usually $249.95)
    25 Available
  • 50% Off Wood Cases for iPhone and iPodŽ from Vers
    Price: $17.49-$19.99 (usually $34.99-$39.99)
    2000 Available
  • Boombox Speaker System for iPodŽ from Brookstone
    Price: $95.00 (usually $149.95)

Like we said, substantial savings if you're in the market for any of this stuff. Happy shopping!

Mac Sales Pop After Windows 7 Release
Data released late Sunday night shows that the Mac OS X is currently beating Windows 7, and has in fact grown by almost three percentage points just this October. (Mac soared from 5.12 to 5.26 percent.) Yes, Windows carries almost one hundred percent of the market after OS X users are subtracted, but still! They fell, again, to mark their ninth loss in the past year. We're gaining...

Sampling Data
While Net Applications gets its data from browser data mined from its client's websites, over 160 million hits per month says they're probably getting a pretty good sample. StatCounter, on the other hand, measures market share, and they put OS X at 11.47% to the combined Vista, XP and 7's total of 86.26%. Again, we say "Not too shabby," especially considering the inroads Apple's had to carve into the largely Windows-using world.

Check out the full results here and here.

We're putting the finishing touches on a new podcast together for y'all...tweet us what you'd like to see us cover in upcoming episodes. Interviews? Giveaways? More product reviews? We'll listen.

Till tomorrow, Newsies...
