Roundup of the Best Available
Buy an affordable iPod Dock station that's lightweight and easy to carry and lets you enjoy listening to your favorite tunes anytime, anywhere.
Griffin Amplifi
Right off you have to love the simplicity and sturdiness of the design (one huge knob volume control in the center) of Griffin's Amplifi. This contemporary styled 2.1 channel sound system for iPod features a sturdy wood construction and acoustically tuned enclosure. Yes, it also charges your iPod (yawn), but wait, the IR remote is genuinely user-friendly, and they have bragging rights on delivering big sound for a surprising ($149) price. If you decide to go behind your iPod's back and use a different audio player, Amplifi will perfectly accept audio input from almost any source through its built-in 3.5mm (1/8") input jack. Impressive and practical.

inMotion iM600
Altec Lansing's inMotion iM600 ($149.95) speaker system updates the concept of the boombox for the 21st Century. Its futuristic design makes it a great accessory for home but it's also compact enough to be portable. It has a built-in FM transmitter, and you can control your iPod with its click wheel or with the wireless remote. Unlike your old boombox, there's no need for package after package of C batteries—the iM600 has a rechargeable lithium ion battery. Use the system unplugged or with the AC adapter. They've also built an auxiliary jack into the system so that you can use another brand of MP3 player or even a Discman.

B &W Zeppelin iPod Speaker
Well how cool do you have to be to get your own unofficial blog run by fans?
Pretty Cool is the answer! Bowers & Wilkins, well known for creating car sound systems for the rich and famous, has decided to turn their stylistic charms to the crowded field of iPod speaker systems. This was a great decision because we feel it is a masterful blending of sound quality and hi-end design (I mean it actually is a scale model zeppelin). Pumping heavy bass with a five-inch woofer along with three channels of amplification that drive 100 watts to the speakers, the audio control puts the room filling sound in a class by itself.
Not inexpensive ($599), but if you want true audiophile pleasure for your iPod, this is it.

It's a great solution for the MP3 player owner who wants his music along to that summer picnic go but who owns something other than an iPod.
